Lynnette Shelley is a Delaware native who moved to Philadelphia in 1999. Her artwork has been displayed at various venues across the Philadelphia metropolitan area, including the 2008 Philadelphia Open Studio Tours (POST). Some of her creature drawings were featured in the animated short “The Spider Is the Web” shown at the 2008 Toronto Film Festival, while more of her artwork was featured as part of an on-screen art show at the 2008 H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, Oregon. Lynnette also recently featured her work at the juried art show in the 2009 Dragon Con in Atlanta, GA, one of the largest fantasy / sci fi-themed conventions in the world. Deeply influenced by Celtic, Eastern, Asian and aboriginal / native works; art nouveau, abstract expressionism, and medieval artworks; fantasy and science fiction; as well as zoomorphism, cryptozoology and mythological stories and legends, Lynnette fuses these styles into her strikingly unique illustrations.

“I am a fan of a multitude of artists – from the various pen-and-ink artists such as Aubrey Beardsley to medieval illuminated manuscripts created by Celtic monks to Russian iconic artists to Japanese scroll painters. I also appreciate artists who portray the world around them with a unique eye and a colorful imagination – Van Gogh, Blake, Kahlo, Chagall, Klimt, Rousseau, and Munch, to name but a few.”

Lynnette’s artwork strikes a primal chord in many viewers, with almost Jungian associations to the colors and shapes. Her animal art and creature illustrations are both primitive and sophisticated, and have been likened to images from an as-yet-discovered ancient civilization or culture.

In addition to her fine art pursuits, Lynnette founded Redeye Design LLC in 2007. Redeye is a freelance creative agency specializing in custom graphic and web design. Lynnette is also the co-founder of The Red Masque, an original avant rock band which has played numerous shows and festivals since 2001. Most recently, The Red Masque released a new album through an avant garde music based out of Colorado. They are currently working on a live album due out later in 2009.
